Batsheva Dance Company
In celebration of Ohad Naharin's 60th birthday - Ensemble Batsheva
It was a privilage to discover another legendary Israeli choreographer, Ohad Naharin, especially having been a great fan of Yasmeen Godder for so many years. Unlike other dance companies, one could easily notice the distinguished flexibility of the dancers- thrusting their chests, breasts and limbs in a unique yet coherent fashion. I thought the dancers would explode into a ball, at one point or another.
I was once told that dancers at Batsheva Dance Company do not practice in front of a mirror. Instead, they use the entire space to learn how to dance from within. Their movements and facial expressions are genuine because they brush upon a fundamental idea that every human being can relate to. It is this sense of authentiy and rawness that hightens the anticipation.
Maybe that is why the audience is able to connect with the dancers on a whole different level.
